Our Methodology

How We Grade
Phoenix Plumbers

Every contractor in our directory receives an independent A through F grade based on six weighted dimensions totaling 100 points. Our algorithm pulls from public data sources — we never accept payment to influence rankings.

Six Dimensions

What We Measure

Each plumber is scored across these categories. Points are weighted to reflect what matters most when hiring a licensed contractor in the Phoenix metro.

Reviews & Reputation

25 PTS

We aggregate ratings from Google, Yelp, and the BBB. Review volume, recency, and response patterns all factor in — not just the star average.

25 / 100

Credentials & Licensing

20 PTS

Arizona requires ROC licensing for all plumbing work. We verify active licensing, liability insurance, bonding, and workers' comp coverage.

20 / 100

Service Specialization

15 PTS

A general contractor who "also does plumbing" scores lower than a dedicated licensed plumber offering water heaters, leak detection, drain cleaning, and more.

15 / 100

Experience & Track Record

15 PTS

Years of operation, consistent business history, and staff qualifications. Newer companies aren't penalized heavily — strong credentials and reviews can offset limited history.

15 / 100

Profile Completeness

10 PTS

Professional website, photos, detailed service descriptions, verified contact info, and published business hours. Incomplete profiles suggest an inactive public presence.

10 / 100

Response & Availability

15 PTS

Plumbing emergencies don't wait for business hours. We check emergency services, 24/7 availability, multiple contact methods, and free estimate offerings.

Grade Scale

What Each Grade Means

Points from all six dimensions are totaled and mapped to a letter grade.

A
Exceptional 90 -- 100 PTS

Top-tier licensed plumber. Verified ROC licensing, excellent reviews, comprehensive services, and strong community reputation. The contractors we'd recommend to family.

B
Above Average 75 -- 89 PTS

Strong credentials and good reviews with minor gaps. May be newer or cover fewer specialized services. Still a solid choice for most plumbing needs.

C
Average 60 -- 74 PTS

Meets basic licensing requirements but may lack depth in specialization or have mixed reviews. Ask for references and get everything in writing.

D
Below Average 40 -- 59 PTS

Limited credentials, few reviews, or an incomplete profile. May be brand new or haven't invested in their online presence. Proceed with extra verification.

F
Insufficient Data 0 -- 39 PTS

Not enough public data to evaluate meaningfully. This doesn't indicate bad work — the contractor may simply have a minimal digital footprint. We recommend direct contact.

Our Promise

Trust & Transparency

We built this grading system to serve Phoenix homeowners, not contractors' marketing budgets.

No Pay-to-Play

Grades are never influenced by advertising, payment, or business relationships. Every contractor earns their grade through real-world performance data alone.

Data-Driven

Scores are calculated automatically from publicly available data sources — Google Business Profiles, ROC licensing databases, BBB records, and industry registries.

Updated Regularly

Our data pipeline refreshes on a regular schedule. New reviews, licensing changes, and profile updates are reflected in grades automatically — not once a year.

For Contractors

How to Improve Your Grade

Your grade isn't permanent. Here's what moves the needle.

1
Complete your Google Business Profile

Add photos, detailed service descriptions, business hours, and respond to every review. This single action impacts Reviews, Profile Completeness, and Response dimensions simultaneously.

2
Keep licensing and certifications current

Maintain your ROC plumbing contractor license, renew certifications, and keep insurance and bonding active. Lapsed credentials drop your Licensing score immediately.

3
Engage with customer reviews

Respond professionally to both positive and negative reviews. A thoughtful response to a 1-star review tells potential customers more about your business than ten 5-star reviews with no reply.

4
Claim your listing on 602 Plumbing Pros

Verified listings get a trust badge and let you update service details, contact information, and credentials directly. Claiming also helps us verify your information is accurate and complete.
